The appellation of legal profession can be different subject to the person itself. Known current some appellative(s) below.
Attorney at Law: "a professional person authorized to practice law; conducts lawsuits or gives legal advice". This term used at both US & Britain.
Counsellor at Law: "someone who gives advice about problems at law". This term used at Indonesia as Penasihat Hukum.
Barrister and Solicitoir : "Lawyer". This term used at Britain.
Lawyer : "One versed in the laws, or a practitioner of law; one whose profession is to conduct lawsuits for clients, or to advise as to prosecution or defence of lawsuits, or as to legal rights and obligations in other matters". It is a general term, comprehending attorneys, counselors, solicitors, barristers, sergeants, and advocates. This term used at US and many countries.
We proud since April 5, 2003 the term of above appellation have unification as ADVOKAT by Act No. 18 Year 2003 regarding Advokat. An advocate is a person whose profession is to provide legal services, both internally and externally or outside the court that meets the requirements based on provisions of this Act.
